Blue Bell Hill
Blue Bell Hill
Blue is a young maker who lives in West Cornwall and is now training as a potter under the Queen Elizabeth scholarship Trust scheme. She was home schooled and gathered her skills and knowledge largely by watching and reading. In 2015, she went to help Richard Phethean in his studio where he makes his own work and teaches throwing; she learned quickly and by 2016 had enough enthusiasm and basic skills to apply for a 3 year apprenticeship QEST grant. She won the grant despite fierce competition and now works alongside Richard, learning all aspects of design, making and studio practice. So far, she is well into producing a range of tableware that launched at ‘Earth and Fire’ Nottingham this summer; she was a helper at Aberystwyth International Ceramics Festival. Blue was awarded a month at the Porthmeor Studios, St.Ives with the support of the Tate Collective Young Artists Scheme. Despite all this hard work she still finds time to swim, surf and go gig racing!
