Clementine Printmaker
I am a printmaker, illustrator and bookmaker who works in mixed media with marks, textures and surfaces. My work is based on travel, personal experience and nostalgia.
In the print room, as a traditional etcher, I try to push the boundaries of the plate to bring out the indexical marks that are often accidental or removed as 'foul bite'. Outside the print room I push my work further; manipulating, cutting and working back into the images to create new work from old that mimicks the printerly mark making achieved from the plate. I enjoy recreating the 'noise' of oil etched images in non-etched marks and materials. I also use risograph to create newer prints from my etchings as an affordable method of editioning that allows me freedom to recreate older, closed etching editions as new work.
I am inspired by traditional and contemporary Japanese printmaking.
