Jo Gosling
Jo is a Clinical Psychologist turned weaver, and teaches Mindfulness Meditation. Her work is strongly influenced by neuroscience is an intimate reflection of a personal journey: making meaning of challenging experiences, honouring heart and soul, which have guided her to the richness of creative expression.
Following a personal health crisis and the loss of a dear friend to breast cancer, there was no time to waste and the welcome return to creativity has been a homecoming. For Jo, weaving is a meditation……. it is a slow process. It is her deep wish that others can experience and cultivate feelings of joy – a vital feeling to balance the suffering in life – through creativity.
Jo believes that the importance of creativity, joy, beauty and rapture are deep human needs. The art of tapestry weaving can express beauty and what it means to be human in this world: there is no ‘quick-fix’ to a fulfilling life and the focus required in the making of it brings much-treasured peace. Another key inspiration is the natural world, and her deep appreciation of the plant and animal worlds: the order, structure, colours and cycles. Jo is deeply grateful that the natural world is on her doorstep, on the River Dart, in Devon.
Connecting with the threads of our weaving ancestors offers a heartfelt continuity with the social history and lives of women throughout the ages. Jo says, "On a personal level, I deeply value how weaving connects me with my grandparents, Letitia and Charles, who ran a tailoring and weaving business in Ireland."
