Serena Partridge
Serena Partridge (b. 1974, North Devon) studied BA (Hons) Design Crafts at Hereford College of Arts and is based at the newly founded AHH Studio Collective in Malton, North Yorkshire. Serena creates mixed media objects and installations, inspired by history, place, people and community.
Serena’s latest projects have involved working with large numbers of people, crossing counties and countries to bring communities from the past, present and future together. Recent commissions include After Grenville, Gros Morne National Park, Canada, 2019; Fabric of Place, Yorkshire Dales, 2018; Luminary, Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, Lancashire, 2017 and Show me your Craft, KHVC, Sweden, 2017.
For Textile Treasure, Serena is pleased to present 'Accessories', the work created for Charlotte Brontë’s Bicentenary exhibition at the Parsonage Museum in Haworth, West Yorkshire, 2016. There is a particular connection with Cornwall since Charlotte’s mother, Maria Branwell, was born in Penzance.
For 'Accessories', Serena created a number of new, temporary acquisitions for the Parsonage, drawing inspiration from Charlotte’s life and personal possessions. The stories portrayed blur the boundaries between fact and fiction, while questioning sources of history and what we believe to be true. These works suggest that, despite the restrictive domesticity of needlework chores, Charlotte’s imagination took over.
